THE 2ND LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS
|
What is Entropy?Entropy is a measure of disorder within a system. In a general way, entropy measure how the energy becomes more spread out in a process. It is also known as the arrow of time because it tells us the direction of the process, in means of if it's reversible or not.
Total entropy in the system is represented by the symbol S. The symbol ΔS represents a change in entropy in the system, the symbol q is used to represent the amount of heat absorbed, so the final equation for entropy will be: Δs=dQ/T When Δs equals zero we say we have a reversible process, when Δs is greater than zero we have an irreversible process. |
All spontaneous processes, produce an increase in the entropy of the universe.
